    DDP Annual Meeting Highlights & Key Stats

    $98 Million in construction, big development plans, and sustained residential growth headlined the recent Downtown Davenport Partnership (DDP) Annual Meeting.  DDP, a division the Chamber, provides leadership and advocacy for downtown economic development, strategic planning, cultural vitality, events, marketing, and clean-and-safe initiatives.  Debi Durham, Director of Iowa Economic Development Authority, also spoke at the event.

    Highlights include:

    • Investment
      •  9 projects representing $98M of investment under construction downtown
      • $112M+ in planned pipeline projects
      • $400M+ invested downtown since 2000 ($88M since 2010)
      • 22 new, retained or expanded businesses
      • $14.2M in food & beverage sales
      • DDP granted $114,000, leveraging $369,000 of private investment

    Daytrotter Downs Festival: Day One

    Paste Magazine – The inaugural Daytrotter Downs Festival kicked off last night at the Adler Theatre in Davenport, Iowa. And let me just say – they nailed it. With a lineup consisting of vets John Paul White (The Civil Wars), William Elliott Whitmore and P.O.S., as well as artists-to-watch Curtis Harding and Mothers, Daytrotter founder Sean Moeller perfectly curated the night’s roster to ensure that it was a night everyone would remember…and thoroughly enjoy.

    4th Annual Icestravaganza to Transform Freight House to Winter Wonderland

    (Quad Cities) – Icestravaganza returns for its fourth year on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Freight House with more interactive ice sculptures, live music, kids’ activities, ice princess guests, giveaways and extended Farmers Market hours.

    Award-winning ice-sculptor Dawson List returns to Davenport from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to amaze attendees with large ice sculptures carved live on site at the Freight House, 421 W. River Dr.  Last year, List created the impressive ice eagle throne – and his new signature piece for 2016 is sure to please.

    Icestravaganza has two very special sisters making an appearance this year. The famous ice queen and princess will be mingling and taking photos with guests from noon to 2 pm. The family fun doesn’t stop there; Icestravaganza offers live music and FREE indoor kids’ activities including a cookie decorating station, crafts, and Davenport Public Library story time.

    For the adults, don’t forget to enter the drawing! Two lucky winners will be going home with a $500 gift certificate to Necker’s Jewelers! The Freight House Farmers Market will remain open until 4 p.m. so you can shop local, too.     Downtown Riverfront Gateway Begins Transformation

    (Davenport, IA) With a skillful swing of the wrecking ball on Wednesday, the vacant former hotel at 227 LeClaire St. in downtown Davenport began its transformation toward a bright future.  In the spring of 2014, the Downtown Davenport Partnership (DDP), a division of Quad Cities Chamber, recognized the importance of the long-challenged riverfront property and took a leadership role with its partner Demolition Davenport in acquiring and preparing the property for a private developer to reinvent the downtown gateway.

    Riverwatch LLC, led by local developers John Ruhl and John Carroll, was selected to redevelop the site following a request for proposals by the DDP Board of Directors.  A new vision was born known as Riverwatch Place, a $20 million-dollar multi-story office complex overlooking the Mississippi with a restaurant and retail component.  Riverwatch LLC will execute demolition and new construction of the proposed project.

    “Focused leadership and collaboration across the private and public sector brought this together,” said Kyle Carter Executive Director, DDP.  “I’m proud that our organization and its partners not only recognized an issue affecting the community, but took the risk and action necessary to solve it.  Like the Forrest Block or Blackhawk Hotel before it, we’re eager to take a very visible dilapidated property and transform it in to a symbol of downtown’s impressive momentum.”

    John Ruhl is also encouraged by the ongoing investment in the corridor.  “This project will create a lot of excitement in concert with the new YMCA Early Learning Center, riverfront park improvements, future YMCA, and redevelopment of the Wonder Bread and Harborview Buildings,” said Ruhl.  “Demolition of the current building and construction of Riverwatch Place will serve as a catalyst to further enhance this unique and highly visible downtown gateway.”

    The project also earned both state and local assistance to make construction financially feasible.  The state of Iowa awarded $837,876 in Brownfield Tax Credits to assist with environmental challenges, and the Davenport City Council approved up to $4.75 million in property tax reimbursements through Tax Increment Financing.

    Carter noted that much is yet to be done before the project is complete.  “Like all major projects, there will continue to be curveballs as progress unfolds, but we’re excited to work with John’s team to make a major improvement that the entire community will ultimately benefit from.”

    DDP and Demolition Davenport will remain stewards of the property until demolition is finished and the construction phase of Riverwatch Place begins.  Demolition is expected to be complete by the end of 2015, and new construction is slated to begin in spring 2016.

    $60M Redevelopment Project Underway

    A project that will change the landscape for one of the Quad Cities’ urban corridors is now underway. The Parker Building, one of the key properties included in the $60 million City Square project developed by Restoration St. Louis, is under construction.

    The first buildings to be redeveloped within City Square are the Parker, Putnam, and Center buildings, situated in the core of downtown Davenport on 2nd Street     between Main and Brady. The Parker building will add multiple floors of Class A office space and two floors of luxury residential apartments.

    “It’s a real pleasure to see construction in full-swing at Parker,” said Kyle Carter, Executive Director, Downtown Davenport Partnership (DDP). “City Square will    accelerate and fundamentally change the energy of our already vibrant downtown. DDP is proud to have played a role in putting this complex deal together, and    we’re excited to see Parker open in 2016 and the next phase of construction to begin after its completion.”

    Phase two of City Square will include an extension of Hotel Blackhawk via a new hotel known as The Blackhawk Suites within the Putnam building located at the   corner of 2nd & Main Streets. In addition, the adjacent Center Building will be renovated to provide a grocer, retail space, and additional amenities. Beyond the $60   million to be invested on the south side of the block, Restoration St. Louis has also partnered with Eastern Iowa Community College to plan a new urban campus in   the former First Federal and First Midwest bank buildings on the north side of the block, in conjunction with redeveloping the KAHL/Capitol Theatre building on 3rd Street.

    Wells Fargo Bank will become the office and retail anchor in the renovated Parker Building at
    104 W. 2nd St.

    Davenport receives honors at White House ceremony

    KWQC – At Wednesday’s event, the First Lady recognized the 52 communities, including Davenport that have achieved gold medals in each of the five goal areas, which include providing healthy school meals, opportunities for physical activity during and outside of school, and healthier early care and education programs.
