    The City Church moves into former Downtown Central Perk space in Davenport

    After nearly a year of holding services at the Redstone Room, The City Church now has a home base of its own. Since the Christian church, which now has about 70 members, opened in January, the Rev. Neil McReynolds said they’ve been scrambling to find meeting places.This past Tuesday, with The City Church’s first services held at their new digs on West 3rd Street in Davenport, the scramble was over.

    New Business Help Economic Growth in Davenport

    KWQC – Carousel of Delights isn’t the only newer business in the city. RAW, in downtown Davenport had its grand opening Wednesday night and Baked Bread and Beer Company is set to open in the East Village this weekend. Head of Economic Development, Susanne Knutsen, said the growth of businesses helps both the economy and job creation.

    Notes @ Noon: Serving a ‘healthy spin’ on cocktails, RAW preps to impress

    Quad City Times – “If the bulky bag of “organic” rainbow carrots temporarily resting atop the freshly polished concrete bar top didn’t make a statement, the permanent forest green moss growing on the wall definitely does. RAW, a new posh tavern in downtown Davenport is not the place to go for a shot of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky and a greasy burger, not that there’s anything wrong with that combo from time to time.”

    Playhouse on the Block

     

    When staff at Quad-City Arts asked Estes Construction to build and donate a playhouse to be auctioned at Festival of Trees, the Davenport company readily agreed, then used the project as a team-building opportunity.

    A new Daytrotter: Comedy shows, local bands arrive to the venue

    Trustees Hire Financing, Development Firm for Development

    Saratoga Capital Group, based in St. Louis, will provide financing and development services for construction of the Scott Community College Urban Campus in downtown Davenport.

    Financing for the $28 million project is expected to be pinned down by the end of 2016, with construction completed in late 2017 or early 2018. The project will not require a property tax increase.

    $98 Million in construction, big development plans, and sustained residential growth headlined the recent Downtown Davenport Partnership (DDP) Annual Meeting.  DDP, a division the Chamber, provides leadership and advocacy for downtown economic development, strategic planning, cultural vitality, events, marketing, and clean-and-safe initiatives.  Debi Durham, Director of Iowa Economic Development Authority, also spoke at the event.

    Highlights include:

    • Investment
      •  9 projects representing $98M of investment under construction downtown
      • $112M+ in planned pipeline projects
      • $400M+ invested downtown since 2000 ($88M since 2010)
      • 22 new, retained or expanded businesses
      • $14.2M in food & beverage sales
      • DDP granted $114,000, leveraging $369,000 of private investment

      • DDP facilitated acquisition and demolition of former hotel at 227 LeClaire St.
      • City Square ($60M) Phase 1 is nearly complete with renovation of historic Parker Building. Phase 2 beginning now  renovating historic Putnam Building in to luxury hotel and residential
      • Eastern Iowa Community College progressing toward construction phase of new downtown campus

    Demand for downtown Davenport housing still strong

    Quad City Times – Over the next five years, 220 new market-rate housing units could be accommodated in downtown Davenport, an official predicted Wednesday at the Downtown Davenport Partnership’s annual meeting.
