    Adler ownership goes back to city

    “Submarine” Commander: “Yellow Submarine” Animator Ron Campbell, July 17 and 18 at Bucktown Center for the Arts

    River Cities Reader– “When I was a child in Australia,” says 75-year-old Ron Campbell, “the way you saw cartoons was you went to the movies on Saturday afternoons, which was the way the movie industry catered to the children’s audience. We went to see Hopalong Cassidy and Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, but before all that bang-bang cowboy stuff, there were cartoons. And I remember thinking, when I was like seven years old, that Tom and Jerry were real, and were somehow behind the screen running around.

    Modern Woodmen Park wins “Best of the Parks”; free tickets available Wednesday

    Quad Cities River Bandits – Modern Woodmen Park has been voted the “Best of the Ballparks” in Class-A baseball by fans and readers of Ballpark Digest, which held a bracketed online voting competition of all 30 Class-A venues across the country over the past two weeks. To celebrate the award, the River Bandits are offering free general admission tickets at the Modern Woodmen Park box office on Wednesday, June 24, for their home game Monday, June 29.

    River Roots Live Lineup to include Musgraves, Staples, Yonder

    Quad City Times – A country singer-songwriter who’s already won two Grammys and two Country Music Association Awards.

    A progressive bluegrass group that’s big in jam band circles, and a legendary R&B-soul-gospel singer.

    Those are among the headliners for the 11th annual River Roots Live music festival, Friday-Saturday, Aug. 28-29, at LeClaire Park, downtown Davenport.

    Officials from the Downtown Davenport Partnership will announce the lineup today, that includes singer Kacey Musgraves, Yonder Mountain String Band and Mavis Staples.

    YMCA opens new Early Learning Center in downtown Davenport

    Quad-City Times– Children giggled as bright sun streamed into the classrooms where the little ones will crawl, toddle and run beginning Monday. The YMCA Early Learning Center, 624 E. 4th St., Davenport, opens at 6 a.m. Monday. The new facility replaces the former location at the Davenport Family YMCA.
