Free Parking Frequently Asked Questions
Are All On-Streetp Parking Spaces Downtown Really Free for 2 Hours?
Yes!
Two hour free parking is here to stay, and currently, the meters are being replaced by signage on each block. The parking ramps are still the best option if you plan on being downtown for a long period of time. They're convenient, inexpensive, and easy to use.
Parking in the ramp is only .75 cents per hour, and you never have to worry about moving your car or brushing off snow and ice. For more details on ramp locations, click here.
| Green Bags - 2 Hour Enforced Free Parking Not all meters have been removed yet, so you man see green bags covering meters throughout downtown. Green bags signify free parking up to 2 hours and are located in the core are of the downtown. |
What time does enforcement begin and end?
Enforcement begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.
How are time limits enforced?
Parking staff will use hand-held computers to monitor spots, and fines will be issued to those who violate the time allowed specified on the bag.
Can I keep moving my car throughout the day?
If you have been parked for 2 hours and choose to move to a new spot, you must park on a different 100 block to avoid receiving a ticket. If you plan on being here for more than 2 hours, we highly reccomend using a parking ramp. Moving spaces or switching to the other side of the same block will still subject your vehicle to being ticketed.
What is different about downtown snow removal?
During a "Snow Emergency," Yellow hoods stating “No Parking in this block from 10 p.m. - 6 a.m. for Snow Removal” will be placed on meters. During a Snow Emergency, it is FREE to park in in any ramp downtown throughout the duration of the emergency. Please park in the ramps to ensure the City can clear the streets effectively; cars not removed from on-street parking during snow emergencies are subject to towing.
