Salon Luce: Live in Light Business Profile

With a goal to offer the best customer experience by selling good feelings along with great hair and makeup services, Salon Lucé opened their 6-chair salon downtown in 2008. Knowing the downtown area was on the verge of redevelopment, owners DaMel and Craig Smith chose their location at 400 North Main Street with plans for an exciting future.

“We wanted to be one of the pioneers to revitalize the downtown area,” DaMel Smith recalls, “and we had a vision from the beginning that we felt would fit in with the development to come.  We loved the history of downtown with the historic buildings, character, and urban feel. We knew we had to be here.”

While specializing in hair cutting, coloring, smoothing treatments, extensions, and styling, along with make-up application, the salon now also places an even bigger emphasis on continuing education.   DaMel opened with a dream to expand from day one, and her new Lucé Académy is now open for business! Lucé Académy will offer classes for Salon Lucé stylists along with others in the industry to encourage the best service possible for customers and stylists alike.

“We noticed the Quad Cities was lacking a place for industries to come and host conferences for young professionals to continue their education in a salon-based environment,” Smith noted. “With Lucé Académy, our number one goal is to focus on not only educating staff members, but also to encourage others in the industry to enjoy advanced education.”

In addition to the opening of the academy, the inside of the salon saw grand renovations as well. From new service stations and equipment upgrades to additional design transformations, Salon Lucé underwent a huge overhaul to mirror the mission of the salon.

Beyond educational classes, the salon is aiming to bring in speakers and educators from various product lines, host luncheons or meetings for businesses, and host private wedding parties for brides. Luce Academy is one step closer to the DaMel’s initial dream. As for the future of Salon Lucé and Lucé Académy? Stay tuned for a follow-up interview coming soon!
