From banks and bars to restaurants and retailers, 3rd Street in downtown Davenport is lined with many distinct spaces. Aside from finding delicious food and great drinks, one will also find unique, local art hidden underground at Art on Third.
Below Boozie’s Bar and Grill and in between Antonella’s Pizzeria and The Office sits an art gallery featuring paintings, photography, pottery, jewelry, and much more. Art on Third, previously known as Gallery 114, provides a “come as you are” atmosphere and welcomes anyone and everyone to explore their downtown-to-earth gallery.
“We started out with mainly abstract art, but we’ve broadened the spectrum to cater to both artists and the community,” owner Regan Hatfield explained. “This way, anyone can walk in and find something to relate to.”
Since opening two years ago, the studio has seen an assortment of art come through the doors. First opening as Gallery 114, Art on Third’s primary focus was on Hatfield and co-owner, Laurie’s, abstract artwork. As time progressed, the two owners discovered the importance of helping new, local artists, too.
“We like to cater to local artists. Whether it be handmade jewelry, ceramics, photography, or other art, it helps support the buy local concept,” Laurie noted.
In order to help highlight new and existing artwork, Art on Third hosts gallery shows that are free to the public and full of fun. With live music, tasty snacks, and drinks to sip, these art shows invite the community to enjoy art with good company.
In the future, Art on Third hopes to offer classes to those interested in further developing their art skills. These classes are intended for both adults and children to help encourage the art scene here in downtown Davenport.
In regard to those looking to show off their work, “bring it on in,” the owners say, “there’s some space somewhere for you.”
