Restoring the original two-way traffic grid on 3rd and 4th Streets has been a strategic priority for downtown Davenport for more than 25 years, and we're excited to see another major milestone reached.
This is the first of two phases, with the remaining stretch between Marquette and Harrison expected to convert in mid-to-late November once road resurfacing to the west is complete. 4th Street west of Marquette will remain one-way.
What to expect
Several intersections will have new all-way stops, including Pershing, Iowa, Warren and LeClaire Streets.
The intersection at 4th and Scott will operate as an all-way stop until a new traffic signal can be installed.
Traffic signal timing will continue to be evaluated and adjusted in the coming months as drivers adapt to the new configuration.
Why this matters for downtown
Restoring the original two-way traffic grid on 3rd and 4th Streets has been a strategic priority for downtown Davenport for more than 25 years, and we're excited to see another major milestone reached.
The conversion is about more than changing the direction of traffic. It's part of a much larger investment in downtown's future, designed to improve access to small businesses and major amenities, support westward development, calm traffic, prioritize pedestrians and improve flood resilience.
We also recognize the frustration that ongoing construction creates. While we're excited about this milestone, there's still work ahead. As the new street network takes shape, the City will continue evaluating traffic flow and making adjustments, with additional improvements extending into the next construction season.
We believe strongly in the long-term value of this investment and appreciate the patience of our downtown businesses, residents and visitors as the work continues.
