Increasing Police Presence in Downtown Davenport

April 10, 2025

Downtown is a place we all care deeply about. It’s where we work, play, create, and connect. While perceptions of safety can vary from person to person, we know a visible, supportive presence downtown makes a difference.

That’s why the Downtown Davenport Partnership, with support from local businesses and grant funding, has launched a new pilot program that brings uniformed, off-duty police officers on foot patrol downtown during key hours. These officers aren't here to write tickets, they’re here to say hello, check in with business owners, connect with folks who may need support, and help provide a visible, friendly presence downtown.

Downtown is safe, and it’s getting safer and more welcoming through ongoing collaboration with social service partners like Vera French and Humility Homes, too. The reality is complex: a rise in people experiencing homelessness nationwide, a mental health crisis, and need for more regional affordable housing all impact the way people perceive public space.

We’re committed to solutions that are proactive, compassionate, and community-focused. We’re proud to invest and build partnerships in initiatives that reflect those values to ensure downtown remains a vibrant and welcoming place for everyone. Read more here.
