Downtown Front Porch Project: Boozies Bar & Grill

Quad Citizens Behind the Businesses: Monica McClintock McKown

January 11, 2021

For Monica, owning Boozies Bar & Grill is something she describes as “definitely not planned.” Boozie’s has been a downtown staple since 1979. Monica’s twin brother, Mark McClintock had purchased the business over 13 years ago and when Mark passed away in 2018, Monica felt a calling to carry on the family business.

She resigned from her full time job with Archer Daniels Midland and purchased the business from his Estate to keep it open. She currently is running the business along with her son.

If you’re anything like us you’ve tried your best to replicate the award-winning Boozie burger at your home, but nothing we’ve ever made at home can compare. That boozie sauce is finger-licking good!

Best known for:
The “Boozie” Burger

What do they love most about being downtown?
We love being walking distance of parks, beautiful hotels, the Modern Woodmen Park and the riverfront. Being in such close proximity of the River Center and Adler Theatre venues is a plus.

What is the best way you can support this business?
1. Supporting local using takeout, delivery and curbside service.

2. Generously tip your delivery person and waitperson to stay employed.

3. Purchasing gift cards and certificates.

4. Book events and parties for holidays or your birthday.

5. Purchasing merchandise such as cool T-shirts and tank tops, branded glasses, jackets, caps, and sweatshirts

6. Writing positive reviews on delivery review sites (Grubhub, DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc.) as well as Yelp and Google can help restaurants

About the Downtown Front Porch Project:

The Downtown Front Porch project is a way to get to know the humans behind the businesses in downtown Davenport. Featuring more than 40 organizations, the images and stories that will be shared are reflective of the energy, passion and resilience of the people that make downtown tick.

“As we all try to navigate a global pandemic, finding ways to connect with our neighbors is more important than ever,” stated Kyle Carter, Executive Director of DDP. “With a year of cancelled events and less foot traffic on the streets, it’s critical that we spend our dollars locally to support the people in our own community. Small, locally-owned businesses are at the center of what makes downtown a special place. This campaign is an opportunity to show the faces of hard-working Quad Citizens and ways the community can rally to support them.”

The goal of the Downtown Front Porch project is to remind people that downtown is vibrant, welcoming and open for business.
