Downtown Front Porch Project: Chocolate Manor

Quad Citizens Behind the Businesses: Randyl Mohr

February 8, 2021

If chocolates from Chocolate Manor aren’t at the top of your Valentine’s Day gift list, are you even human? Every moment of the shopping experience is memorable; the sound of a bell ringing as you walk through the door and the smell from the kitchen is tantalizing from the start. One sample has your mouth watering and your soul aching for more. You might walk in for the toffee but leave with a pound more than what you had planned because it’s one of life’s simplest pleasures to select all that your heart desires from the case.

This family business has been in the Quad Cities since 2001 and they have certainly perfected their craft. They have called downtown Davenport home for the last eight years and since then we’ve constantly been referring back to all the health benefits of consuming dark chocolate to justify our purchases. But the truth is… you don’t need a health reason… just eat the dang chocolate and be happy!

Best known for:

The English toffee but Randyl (pictured here) has another personal favorite: The Mayan Truffles.

What do they love most about being downtown?

The downtown has a youthful energy and the clientele allow me to experiment more with flavors.

What is the best way you can support this business?

We do a lot more shipping and have continuously offered curbside pickup and delivery throughout the pandemic. I understand if people don't feel comfortable going out and am trying to be accommodating of that with delivery services. I'm a small business, every purchase helps!

The Downtown Front Porch project is a way to get to know the humans behind the businesses in downtown Davenport. Featuring more than 50 organizations, the images and stories that will be shared are reflective of the energy, passion and resilience of the people that make downtown tick.

“As we all try to navigate a global pandemic, finding ways to connect with our neighbors is more important than ever,” stated Kyle Carter, Executive Director of DDP. “With a year of cancelled events and less foot traffic on the streets, it’s critical that we spend our dollars locally to support the people in our own community. Small, locally-owned businesses are at the center of what makes downtown a special place. This campaign is an opportunity to show the faces of hard-working Quad Citizens and ways the community can rally to support them.”

The goal of the Downtown Front Porch project is to remind people that downtown is vibrant, welcoming and open for business.
