Downtown Front Porch Project: Mac’s Tavern

Quad Citizens Behind the Businesses: Gary and Sasha Rowlands

October 2, 2020

Mac’s Tavern is a downtown institution; they’ve been here since 1934! Mac’s legacy and traditions were established long before current owners Gary and Sasha were born, but under their care, the history, love and admiration of Mac’s Tavern remains.

Mac’s sits right across the street from our office, and yes, you can often catch us staring out the window, daydreaming of a Mac’s visit. It’s a place that holds special personal and professional moments in our lives, and nothing we write today could do the place justice for how much we appreciate its existence.

Best known for:
This is a small, but amazing staff that really takes care of their customers and make you feel like family. They make a great martini the old school way and the chef is It's often said they have the best wings and mac and cheese in town!

What do they love most about being downtown?
The growth of downtown has been great to see. There has been a lot of hard work bringing it back to a fun river town for locals and visitors to enjoy.

What is the best way you can support this business?
They have been truly grateful to all of the old and new customers continuing to support them by dining in or ordering curbside. Next time you’re craving wings, a burger, mac and cheese or one of their to-go pouches filled with a delicious adult beverage, drop in and see them or give them a call at 563-324-6227 to place a convenient curbside pickup order.

About the Downtown Front Porch Project:

The Downtown Front Porch project is a way to get to know the humans behind the businesses in downtown Davenport. Featuring more than 40 organizations, the images and stories that will be shared are reflective of the energy, passion and resilience of the people that make downtown tick.

“As we all try to navigate a global pandemic, finding ways to connect with our neighbors is more important than ever,” stated Kyle Carter, Executive Director of DDP. “With a year of cancelled events and less foot traffic on the streets, it’s critical that we spend our dollars locally to support the people in our own community. Small, locally-owned businesses are at the center of what makes downtown a special place. This campaign is an opportunity to show the faces of hard-working Quad Citizens and ways the community can rally to support them.”

The goal of the Downtown Front Porch project is to remind people that downtown is vibrant, welcoming and open for business.
