Downtown Front Porch Project: Polished Hair Lounge

Quad Citizens Behind the Businesses: Tricia Collins

September 21, 2020

There’s a reason why resilience is the word used most often to describe downtown businesses. Tricia Collins is the embodiment of an unrelenting spirit when faced with challenging times.

Polished Hair Lounge opened their doors 2+ years ago over on the east-end of downtown. In that time, she went through the brutal winter of 2018, fought flooding in 2019 and now a pandemic, and yet each time you talk to her you catch her cool vibe of a “we can handle it” attitude. No matter what, this #GirlBoss just gets things done.

The Collins family has a large footprint in downtown Davenport. Tricia’s parents and sister own Me & Billy, and her younger sister owns gift and home décor shop What A Gem. Tricia has well over a decade of experience in the cosmetology field, and from personal experience, we can tell you she has an uncanny ability to deliver what a client desires, even when they have a hard time expressing what they want for themselves.

Best known for:

POLISHED Hair Lounge is an urban hair salon that caters to everyone! With non-gender specific pricing, they offer an experience that makes everyone feel welcome and accepted. From textured cuts and fades to blunt bobs and pixies, they have stylists that can do it all. And for the color fanatics, they specialize in blondes and color corrections, love funky fashion shades and classic, natural colors that pop.

What does she love most about being downtown?

“The downtown business community! Everyone is so supportive of one another!”

What is the best way you can support this business?

They have been operating at half capacity and doing a health in-take questionnaire with clients as they book their appointments. Most of their stylists are working part time with staggered shifts to allow them to remain a safe distance and half capacity when possible.

During the shutdown, they were able to sell gift certificates and products to pay rent and utilities and have been able to bounce back fairly well in the weeks after opening. Booking appointments, referring new clients and purchasing products are very helpful ways to support this small business!

About the Downtown Front Porch Project:

The Downtown Front Porch project is a way to get to know the humans behind the businesses in downtown Davenport. Featuring more than 40 organizations, the images and stories that will be shared are reflective of the energy, passion and resilience of the people that make downtown tick.

“As we all try to navigate a global pandemic, finding ways to connect with our neighbors is more important than ever,” stated Kyle Carter, Executive Director of DDP. “With a year of cancelled events and less foot traffic on the streets, it’s critical that we spend our dollars locally to support the people in our own community. Small, locally-owned businesses are at the center of what makes downtown a special place. This campaign is an opportunity to show the faces of hard-working Quad Citizens and ways the community can rally to support them.”

The goal of the Downtown Front Porch project is to remind people that downtown is vibrant, welcoming and open for business.
