The Downtown Davenport Partnership (DDP), a division of the Quad Cities Chamber, is working with WXY, a New York City-based architecture, urban design and planning firm, to develop a strategic master plan for the downtown district.
The DDP in partnership with the City of Davenport and others have played an integral role in the growth and development of downtown Davenport over the last two decades, and this effort intends to build on those accomplishments.
“Downtowns play a significant role in economic and community development across the Quad Cities region, and vibrant downtowns are crucial to attracting and retaining talent,” said Kyle Carter, Executive Director of the DDP. “This project will help us create a bold vision for how we want to see our downtown grow over the next ten years, specifically focused on economic development, placemaking, how to drive more investment and ultimately win over the next generation.”
WXY, which also has an office in Chicago, is partnering with SB Friedman, a specialized real estate and development advisory firm based in Chicago, and Sam Schwartz, a national leader in multi-modal urban mobility, to complete the project.
"Downtown Davenport boasts a powerful combination of institutions, companies and places that contribute to a thriving downtown and region," said David Vega-Barachowitz, a WXY associate who will be managing the plan. "As part of the Downtown Davenport Master Plan, WXY's team will help city leaders and residents reflect on those assets and imaginatively plot strategies, policies and designs for the future."
Public engagement is a crucial part of this process, and WXY will host a series of public input sessions to learn what Quad Citizens envision for the future of downtown Davenport.
“This project has the potential to be transformative, and we can’t wait to provide opportunities for people to be involved and share their dreams for downtown Davenport,” Carter said.
The project is expected to be completed this summer, and pending Davenport City Council approval, the DDP and the City of Davenport will work together to bring the plan to fruition.
